Leopold Moosbrugger , also Leopold Mosbrugger , Leopold von Moosbrugger , (born January 24, 1796 in Konstanz , † August 12, 1864 in Aarau , Switzerland) was a German mathematician and lawyer .

Life

Leopold came from the Moosbrugger family, famous for their builders, plasterers and painters . He was the son of Wendelin Moosbrugger's first marriage with Anna Schärtker von Arbon from Thurgau. The mother died giving birth.

He studied mathematics at the University of Heidelberg from 1813 to 1825 with Franz Ferdinand Schweins , followed the direction of his friend Jakob Steiner and, on his return to Constance, became a private teacher of mathematics, including from 1827 to 1829 for the later Emperor Napoléon III. when he lived in Arenenberg Castle . In 1830, as the successor to Franz Xaver Bronner, he received the post of mathematics teacher at the Aarau Cantonal School , which he held for 32 years. Rudolf Rauchstein wrote a biography about him under the title "In memory of Professor Leopold Moosbrugger".
