Leopold Suchsland

Leopold Suchsland (born September 13, 1871 in Vacha , † September 27, 1943 in Graz ) was an Austrian music teacher and composer .

Life

Leopold Suchsland studied music in Weimar with Erich Wolf Degner , ED Götze, K. Müller-Hartung, Friedrich Grützmacher and in Leipzig with J. Klengels.

He then belonged to the Leipzig Philharmonic Orchestra as solo cellist and traveled with the Munich Kaim Orchestra .

Suchsland came to Styria in 1894 . He initially taught at the music school in Pettau, today Ptuj , Slovenia , and from 1899 at the school of the music association in Graz. Suchsland originally taught cello and piano here, and from 1908 also music theory . In 1919 he took over the artistic direction of Urania.

As a teacher (including the composer Hermann Grabner ), as a concert conductor and head of the Singverein, but above all as the supervisor of the Urania Quartet , Suchsland made a significant contribution to the concert life of Graz between the two world wars.
