Leopoldia ghouschtchiensis is a species of the genus Leopoldia .

description

The bulbs are oblong-egg-shaped and measure 2 × 1.5 centimeters. The onion skins are brownish. There are four sheets . These are 24 × 1.6 centimeters in size, linear, slightly runny and shorter than the inflorescence . The shaft is upright and 27.5 centimeters tall. The inflorescence is a loose, cylindrical-elongated raceme that measures 11.5 × 1.2 centimeters. The pedicels of sterile flowersare 5 millimeters tall, purple and ascending or curved. There are 55 fertile flowers. They are 4 to 5 × 2 millimeters in size, horizontal, bell-shaped to tubular and green or brown-yellow. The tips are 0.5 millimeters, black and bent back. There are 20 to 25 sterile flowers. They are 1.5 × 0.5 to 1 millimeter in size, ascending, bell-shaped and radiant purple.

Occurrence

The species is so far only known from the location of the holotype in Iran in the province of West Azerbaijan on the road from Salmas to Uromieh near Ghouschtchi at an altitude of 1750 meters.

Systematics

Leopoldia ghouschtchiensis was first described by Jafari and Maassoumi in 2011 . The name Leopoldia ghouschtchiensis refers to Ghouschtchi , where the holotype was collected. The closest relative of the species is said to be Leopoldia cycladica subsp. to be subsessilis .
