Lepidamia is a genus of cardinalfish (Apogonidae) that occurs on the coasts of the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific from South Africa to China. Lepidamia speciesare absent on the coasts of Australia and New Guinea, home to many cardinal species from other genera.

features

Lepidamia species are 14 to 19 cm long, moderately high back and reddish in color. The head and body are covered with comb scales. The area in front of the dorsal fin, the chest, the cheeks, the gill covers and the base of the pelvic fins and caudal fin are also scaled. The bone ridge on the preoperculum is smooth, the edges of the preoperculum are sawn. A basic phenoid is present. There are brush-shaped teeth arranged in many rows on the premaxillary, lower jaw and palate. The stomach, intestines and peritoneum are light. There are five free hypuralia in the caudal fin skeleton . The caudal fin is forked.

The first ray in the second dorsal fin and the first ray in the anal fin are branched and segmented. Each lateral line scale has several pores.
