Lepismium asuntapatense is a species of the genus Lepismium in the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Lepismium asuntapatense grows epiphytically with hanging, branched shoots that are up to 1.5 meters long. The flattened shoot segments are up to 40 centimeters long, 2.5 to 3 centimeters wide and up to 4 millimeters thick. Their edges are curved. The densely white woolly areoles are slightly raised and are 2.5 to 4 centimeters apart. Thorns are usually absent. Occasionally, however, there are tiny, insignificant thorns on old areoles.

The individual, bell-shaped, orange (to red) flowers appear laterally. They are 11 to 15 millimeters long and have a diameter of 14 to 19 millimeters. Nothing is known about the fruits and seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Lepismium asuntapatense is distributed in the Bolivian department of La Paz in the mountain rainforest at altitudes of 1000 to 1350 meters.

It was first described in 2000 by Michael Kessler , Pierre Leonhard Ibisch and Wilhelm Barthlott . A nomenclatory synonym is Pfeiffera asuntapatensis (M. Kessler, Ibisch & Barthlott) Ralf Bauer (2005).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
