The Leptonetidae (from gr. Λεπτός ( leptós ) "thin, fine" and νήτη ( nḗtē ) "string, web") are a family of real spiders and comprise 21 genera with 346 species . (As of January 2018)

They are represented in the Mediterranean , Eurasia , Japan and America . The most species-rich genus in Europe is Leptoneta . Hitherto, in Austria with Protoleptoneta italica the only species in Central Europe proved.

These are relatively primitive haplogyne spiders, which lack the sclerotized plate over the sexual opening ( epigyne ) of the female. The species are usually tiny and have six eyes. The eyes are arranged in a symmetrical semicircle (four anterior and two posterior). Many species live in caves or the litter layer.
