Leroy Jackson (bassist)

Leroy Jackson (born around 1925 - December 27, 1985 in Chicago ) was an American jazz musician ( double bass ).

Live and act

Jackson worked in the Chicago jazz scene from the 1940s; first recordings were made in 1948 with Tom Archia and His All Stars (to which Gene Ammons and Willie Jones belonged). In the following years he played in the bands and orchestras of Gene Ammons, Lester Young and Kenny Mann . In 1950 he performed with the Charlie Parker Sextet at the Pershing Ballroom. In the second half of the 1950s he could be heard on recordings by Ira Sullivan and Sandy Mosse , Eddie Baker and Gene Esposito ; in the 1970s he still recorded with George Freeman ( New Improved Funk , with Von Freeman , John Merritt Young , Bob Guthrie). In the field of jazz he was involved in 16 recording sessions between 1948 and 1976, also as a companion for Lurlean Hunter ("I Hadn't Anyone 'till You", 1950). In the early 1960s he was still active as a musician, u. a. with drummer Chuck Minogue.
