LesMads (short for "Les Mademoiselles") was a German-language fashion blog network of the publishing and media group Hubert Burda Media . Its authors provided daily information on fashion , trends, lifestyle , music and photography from cities such as Berlin , Paris, London , New York, Milan and Stockholm . The website was online from April 2007 to January 2016.

Origin and development

LesMads was founded in April 2007 by Jessica Weiß and Julia Knolle from Cologne as a simple fashion blog. Although neither of them had any journalistic training or much experience with fashion, Burda Verlag soon became aware of the blogger duo and indicated its support. After a two-month trial period on a Blogspot account , the publisher gave start-up help with the design of a new website and set the budget for travel. Responsibility for the content remained with the bloggers.

In 2008 Natalie "Schnati à Paris" Weiß joined the LesMads team; since March 2010 she has been reporting from the fashion capital Paris . In July 2010, Knolle left the team in order to support the digital editorship of the Condé-Nast-Verlag and to manage his own blog for the online edition of the German Vogue . In August 2010, LesMads was expanded into a blog network with additional authors. "The additional bloggers will ensure even more diversity and variety in terms of content and geography, which I am really looking forward to," said Jessica Weiß, who continues to be the editorial manager from the main office in Berlin.

Over the years LesMads has developed into the most widely read fashion blog in Germany. While the blog was initially only followed by friends and acquaintances, after a few months LesMads had around 240 readers per day. After the Burda Verlag took on the blog and its marketing, the number of visitors rose rapidly; In 2010, LesMads was visited by up to 700,000 fashion-interested readers every month.

In 2011, the book Modestrecke - Unterwegs mit LesMads was published on the blog . In July 2011 Burda launched the LesMads Shop, in which designer fashion, watches, jewelry, accessories, perfume and cosmetics as well as household items are offered.

Jessica Weiß left LesMads in September 2011 to launch Interview Magazine in Germany as Executive Editor Online . With her, some of the other network bloggers from LesMads said goodbye, including her sister Schnati. Instead of Jessica Weiß, Katja Schweitzberger has been blogging since then on the initiative of the founders.

In December 2015, Katja Schweitzberger announced the hiring of LesMads for January 2016.

LesMads is dedicated to various subject areas and provides information a. a. about photo exhibitions, festivals and travel destinations; The main topic remains the world of fashion. The authors report on site from fashion weeks around the world and present models , designers and their collections.

In the “Outfits” section, styling suggestions are made, photos of street styles from different cities are published and daily outfits are presented, which the reader can also comment on. LesMads also has a constantly expanding shopping guide and you can watch videos of fashion shows , interviews, etc. on LesMads.TV .
