Les Blérots de RAVEL was a musical group from Yvelines , France .

Band history

In 1996 they got together to do street theater with music for one summer . The interaction worked so well that the group continued to perform together and work out their program. So it gradually became more of a music group than a theater group. At first they played in cafes, at street parties and various festivals.

In 2000, they recorded their first album, Vol au-dessus d'un Nid de Cagoules , which was followed by more. With Voleurs du dimanche (2005) and Timbre (2008) they reached the French album charts.

Originally known locally, the Blérots de RAVEL are now known beyond France and often go on tour - especially in Germany. You can still tell that they came from the theater today, because their concerts are similar to a theater performance.

In 2015 the group broke up after a final tour.

The name

Like other French bands of a similar style (e.g. La Rue Kétanou , Les Ogres de Barback , Les Têtes Raides and many more), the band's title is a play on words. 'Blérot' is initially shortened to texto (sms) language for 'blaireau', which means badger, shaving / paintbrush and idiot. RAVEL is short for "Renouveau Artisitique Volontairement Elaboré par des Losers", a voluntarily refined artistic renewal by losers. In addition, Blérot is a twisted Boléro , while the abbreviation put together results in its composer Maurice Ravel .

style

The Blérots de RAVEL are easy to classify, but a major focus is on the multitude of different instruments (wind and string instruments, classical and unfamiliar) and vocals. In general, the group is part of the nouvelle chanson française . The music is a fast-paced mixture of klezmer , jazz-rock and ska based on Eastern European music such as Balkan Brass .
