Lester Holt

Lester Holt (born March 8, 1959 in Marin County , California ) is an American journalist .

Life

Holt graduated from California State University, Sacramento . From 1981 to 1982 he worked for WCBS as a reporter and from 1982 to 1983 for KNCT as a reporter. From 1981 to 2000 he worked as a journalist for the television station CBS . He has worked as a journalist for NBC News since 2000 and for NBC Nightly News Weekend from 2007 to 2015 . Since 2003 he has hosted the weekend edition of Today on NBC. Holt has hosted the weekday news program NBC Nightly News since 2015 after Brian Williams was on leave. He is the first African American in a comparable position on major news.

In September 2016, Holt hosted the first television duel of the presidential election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump .

Holt is married to Carol Hagen and lives in Manhattan . His son is the journalist Stefan Holt.
