The Heiligenhafen beacon stands on the steep coast of Heiligenhafen and, as a warning beacon , indicates the closing times for the shooting areas in the Bay of Kiel .

The white concrete tower built in 1986 with a red lantern house, gallery and round flat roof shows strong lightning when air and sea targets are fired from the Putlos military training area and Todendorf military training area . The red (Putlos) and yellow (Todendorf) light signals are generated by 400 watt metal halide lamps .

The Heiligenhafen beacon is the easternmost of a total of six warning beacons in this area. Here are (from east to west): Beacon Blankeck , beacon Wessek , Neuland Lighthouse , Beacon Hubertsberg and beacon Heidkate .
