The Neuland lighthouse is located on the Bay of Kiel , between Hohwachter Bay and Kiel Fjord near the village of Behrensdorf . It is not operated by the waterways and shipping administration, but by the Bundeswehr . The tower can be visited twice a year in summer as part of an open house organized by the municipality of Behrensdorf with the support of the Bundeswehr.
The tower as a warning light
The fire on the historic Neuland lighthouse indicates the closing times for the Putlos and Todendorf target practice areas, as do the newly built signal points Heidkate , Hubertsberg, Neuland, Wessek, Blankeck and Heiligenhafen, even at night if necessary. The corresponding signal is a yellow lightning bolt for the Todendorf area and a red lightning bolt for the Putlos area. If exercises are taking place in both warning areas, a yellow-red alternating lightning bolt can be seen. In addition, these restricted areas are protected by security vehicles.
