Podersdorf lighthouse

The lighthouse Podersdorf am Neusiedler See is one of the few lighthouses in the Republic of Austria and at the same time one of the southernmost lighthouses in the entire German-speaking area .

Location and description

The lighthouse is located on the western outskirts and at the small port of the market town of Podersdorf am See ( Neusiedl am See district ), which is in the east of Burgenland in Seewinkel . It has a height of about twelve meters, which is sufficient to allow it to be seen from afar in the flat landscape of the Neusiedler Basin. It thus represents both an optical navigation mark and a landmark . The tower was built from metal segments and is painted red and white. It was built in the course of the renovation of the Podersdorf lido at the end of the 1990s and is located on a jetty leading into the lake . The lido that surrounds it on both sides and was redesigned at the time has one of the few reed-free accesses to Lake Neusiedl with a sandy beach .

The tower is used only partly the navigation of waterways on Lake Neusiedl. Rather, it was built as a point of orientation and for storm warnings for water sports enthusiasts and is now also a tourist attraction and one of the sights in Podersdorf am See. Not least because of several (mostly romantic) recordings from the television series Der Winzerkönig ( ORF and ARD ) he is known to a wide audience.
