The lighthouse Shark Island ( English Shark Island Lighthouse ) is a historic lighthouse on the Shark Island peninsula in Lüderitz in the ǁKaras region in southwestern Namibia . It has a total height of 12 m . and was built in 1903 and shut down in 1910. The lighthouse has an atypical square shape with an attached lighthouse keeper's house. The lantern has been removed. Today the tower is part of a lodge belonging to Namibia Wildlife Resorts .
New lighthouse
Not far from here ( 26 ° 38 ′ 7.6 ″ S , 15 ° 9 ′ 9.2 ″ E ) is a 15 m high steel scaffolding tower with a fire height of 34 m , which is known as the New Shark Island Lighthouse . Depending on the direction, it sends a red or green light for 2.5 seconds with a break of 7.5 seconds over a distance of 8 nautical miles (about 15 kilometers).
