Namibia Wildlife Resorts ( NWR ) is a hotel chain based in Windhoek , the capital of Namibia . The company is 100 percent owned by the Namibian state.

NWR is part of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and has been operating almost all of the accommodations previously managed directly by the Ministry since 1998 as a state-owned economic enterprise; these are mainly and for the most part exclusively in the national nature reserves of Namibia . Some properties are since the early 2010s by the private partner joint venture Sun Karros operated

Tobie Aupindi , who was in office until December 31, 2010, was named “Africa's Tourist Person of the Year” at the 2010 World Travel Awards .

Finances

By 2005 NWR was facing financial collapse. However, since the 2007/2008 financial year, the company has posted profits. The total debt in 2009 was just under N $ 100 million. On July 22, 2010, it was announced that NWR would need at least N $ 323 million in the short term through the end of July of that year to service current loans and otherwise lay off staff and close accommodations.
