The Hardap Recreation Area ( English Hardap Recreation Resort ) is a conservation and recreation area in the south of Namibia . It is located about five kilometers north of the small town of Mariental and 250 kilometers south of the state capital Windhoek . He has the protection status of a game park (English Game Park ).

The nature reserve was established around the Hardap Dam , the largest reservoir in Namibia, opened in 1968 .

Touristic

The reservoir is the center of the facility, where water sports are practiced. For tourists and holiday guests (until 2012) simple but functional overnight bungalows and a very nicely located restaurant were available. Since then, the facility has been completely renovated and should reopen in a first phase on December 1, 2014 and finally on March 1, 2015. This was postponed until the end of 2014. The resort opened on December 1, 2015.

The wildlife is quite large and the area is considered a paradise for ornithologists.
