The Mangetti National Park ( English Mangetti National Park ) is a 419.9 square kilometer national park in Namibia , on the national road B8 about 100 kilometers south of Rundu . It emerged from the Mangetti Wildlife Park by proclamation in 2008 and is currently the only protected area in Namibia that is run by government authorities and local communities. The national park has been open to the public during the day since October 10, 2014.
The landscape is dominated by Kalahari Sandveld and Savannah .
Flora and fauna
Mangetti is one of the last retreats for rare animal species in Namibia. In addition to elephants , eland , kudu and giraffes, there are also sable antelopes and hyenas , leopards and lions and some of the last remaining wild dogs . Before the proclamation as a national park, Mangetti was used as a breeding area for rhinos .
