The National recreation area west coast ( English National West Coast (Tourist) Recreation Area ) was a recreational area and nature reserve in the Namib , the north of the town of Swakopmund in Namibia was. It was located between the two nature reserves, the Skeleton Coast in the north and the Namib-Naukluft Park in the south.

It opened on December 13, 2010 in the new Dorob National Park .

The west coast recreation area was around 200 kilometers long and around 50 kilometers wide and is crossed by the well-developed C34 coastal road. Via it you can reach the former holiday resort Henties Bay , which has now grown into a town, and the famous seal colony at Cape Cross, as well as numerous fishing bases along the coastline to Cape Frio .

Although the nature reserve is part of the desert, the cold Benguela Current regularly creates a wall of fog every morning that extends far into the interior of the country and supplies the sparse fauna and flora with the essential moisture.
