The Dorob National Park ( English Dorob National Park ) is a proclaimed in December 2010 National Park between the Namib-Naukluft National Park in the south and the Skeleton Coast -Nationalpark in the north, on the coast of Namibia to the towns of Walvis Bay and Swakopmund area. It includes the former West Coast recreation area .

Dorob means various sources after "water that sinks in the sand" or "dry". The name is based on the historically used name for the area in the 16th century, Doro-ǀHub , for "dry land".

history

Originally founded as Walvis Bay Nature Reserve by the South African administration, the park lost its status with the transition from Walvis Bay to Namibia in 1994. Since then, the proclamation was planned as Walvis Bay National Park , but the name was changed to Central Area in 2008 . With the proclamation in December 2010 the area is a national park. It serves as a link between the planned large national park with the name Namib Skeleton Coast National Park .
