Westkapelle Laag ( Dutch ; also called Noorderhoofd ) is the name given to the second lighthouse in Westkapelle to distinguish it from the high lighthouse in the village.
In the middle of the dike, about a kilometer north of Westkapelle , is the small lighthouse. The tower, made of cast iron in 1875, was designed by Quirinus Harder , who developed a number of Dutch lighthouses. The lighthouse was made by the iron foundry Nering Bögel in Deventer . This tower, together with the light from the large lighthouse, directs its beacon on the Oostgat shipping lane in the Westerschelde .
The tower is red with a white band. The light from the tower has three colors: red, white and green. These are separated from each other by panels. If a captain sees the red zone, he must immediately change course. The white light sector has a luminous intensity of 6000 candela (cd) , the red and green each 1800 cd.
