In the Vita it is handed down that Leucius originally came from Alexandria and then traveled to Brundusium (Brindisi) for missionary work, where he became a bishop, converted numerous people and died around 180 under Emperor Commodus . A later confusion with another Leucius, who was also born in Alexandria and came to Brindisi, but who did not live until the 4th or 5th century is also possible. The late dating, which is also represented on the website of the Archdiocese of Brindisi , does not fit the myth of the diocese's founder.

The spread of the cult is attested by Gregory I , centers of worship were under the rule of the Longobards Canosa , Trani and Benevento .

The day of remembrance of Leucius is January 11th .
