The Levesque was a French dog breed formerly recognized by the FCI (formerly FCI Group 6, Section 1.1, Standard No. 23 ). The FCI removed the breed from its lists at the request of the French umbrella organization.
Origin and history
The breeding of the breed began with a cross between a female from the pack of Conte de Chabod and a male from another pack. Based on the dogs from this litter, the breeder Rogatien Levesque started breeding a new breed between 1873 and 1880, which was named after its first breeder. In addition to Chabod's dogs, the Grand Bleu de Gascogne , Grand Gascon Saintongeois and the English Foxhound were involved . The goal was a pack hound with a good nose, fast and strong.
The breed was recognized by the FCI for a long time, but was deleted from the lists again at the request of the Société Centrale Canine , since in the opinion of this association the Levesque was only a variant of the Grand Gascon Saintongeois.

Compared to other French hunting dogs, he was lighter: 25–30 kg, at 66–72 cm height at the withers . The hair was short and straight in the colors tricolor: tan color limited to the head , black as a coat or blanket , pure white without stippling.
