Federico Chabod
Federico Chabod or Frédéric Chabod (born February 23, 1901 in Aosta , † July 14, 1960 in Rome ) was an Italian historian .
Chabod came from the Aosta Valley . He studied with Pietro Egidi at the University of Turin and graduated in 1925 with the Diploma di Laurea . Chabod published significant works on Niccolò Machiavelli and the Renaissance . He taught first in Perugia (from 1934) then in Milan (from 1938) and finally in Rome (1946 to 1960). In the 1940s he campaigned for the autonomy of the Aosta Valley and against attempts to join France. As representative of the Partito d'Azione, he was the first President of the Regional Council of the Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley ( Consiglio della Valle del Comitato di Liberazione Nazionale ) from January 10 to October 24, 1946, when he resigned to join the university Follow Rome.
He had been a corresponding member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei since 1948 and a full member since 1956 ; he was also a member of the British Academy since 1957 and was an honorary doctor from the Universities of Oxford and Granada. In 1955 he was awarded an Antonio Feltrinelli Prize . From 1955 to 1960 he was President of the Comité International des Sciences Historiques . In 1959 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . The Rifugio Chabod , a refuge and accommodation hut on Gran Paradiso , is named after Chabod .
