The Lewis Point is characterized by cliffs on the north side of the headland at the Wilkins Coast of Palmer Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is towered over by a 510  m high ice dome and lies on the south side of the mouth of the Anthony Glacier into the Weddell Sea .

Aerial photographs were taken during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) and in 1947 during the US Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948). The expedition leader Finn Ronne named the cape after Richard L. Lewis of the United States Army Quartermaster Corps in Austin , Texas , who had equipped the expedition with equipment and clothing for testing purposes.
