Lewis T. Preston

Lewis Thompson Preston (born August 5, 1926 in New York - † May 4, 1995 in Washington, DC ) was an American banker . He was CEO of JP Morgan from 1980–1989 and President of the World Bank from 1991 until his death .

Preston took as a soldier of the Marine Corps at the Pacific War in part. He graduated from Harvard in 1951 with a degree in history . After graduation he worked for JP Morgan, in 1966 he became head of the bank's London office, 1968 vice president, 1980 CEO of the bank.

In 1991 Preston was elected President of the World Bank; For health reasons, however, he had to let deputies run the business several times, for example in 1993 after a heart attack and the last few months before his death.

In 1992 Preston was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
