Lewis Wright

Lewis Wright (* around 1990 in Norwich ) is a British jazz musician ( vibraphone , composition ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Wright worked in the British jazz scene from the mid-2000s; In 2006 he recorded his self-published debut album Stop Look & Listen in a quartet with Simon Brown (piano), Andy Doyle (bass guitar) and Will Clark (drums) . In the following years he played in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra , Clark Tracey ( Current Climate ), with the Paul Jordanous Ensemble and in the formation Empirical (with Julian Siegel and Nathaniel Facey , among others ), with Empirical (for which he also composed) he composed four Albums and two EPs. In 2016 Wright recorded the album Duets with pianist Kit Downes ; he also performed with Jason Rebello . In the field of jazz he was involved in ten recording sessions between 2006 and 2016. He can also be heard on albums by Catherine Feeny , Yazz Ahmed , Nerina Pallot and Michael Kiwanuka . Currently (2019) he works alongside Empirical a . a. also with Kiwanuka, Julian Bliss , Janning Trumann and as a soloist.

Wright was awarded the Parliamentary Jazz Award (2016) and the Worshipful Company of Musicians Prize (2011) as Ensemble of the Year for Empirical . He kicked u. a. at the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Albert Hall and was soloist with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Wright lives in London.
