Levon Astvazatrjan
Levon Aramowitsch Astwazatrjan (also Levon Arami Astvatsatrian and Levon Astvatsaturian , Russian Левон Арамович Аствацатрян ; born January 3, 1922 in Constantinople , today Istanbul ; † October 19, 2002 in Yerevan , Armenia ) was an Armenian composer .
life and work
Levon Astwazatrjan was born in Constantinople and grew up in France. He lived here from 1923 to 1947. He attended the Collège Parc Impérial in Nice and studied composition with Eleuterio Lovreglio (1900–1972) at the local conservatory from 1940 to 1945. From 1936 to 1943 he studied composition at the Conservatory in Cannes. In 1947 he went to Yerevan . In that year he composed his first symphony and in 1948 a suite for orchestra. In 1949 he composed four preludes for piano and became a member of the Association of Armenian Composers (Հայաստանի կոմպոզիտորների միություն). From 1950 to 1991 he worked as a music editor for Sowjetakan Groch. In 1962 he composed the cantata Дятел [Der Specht] for choir and orchestra. In the 1960s he wrote piano music, including a sonata breve in 1960, a partita in 1964 and a prologue i motet in 1969. In 1970 he composed the symphony Sovetskaya as a commission for the Armenian Ministry of Culture . He published Armenia - Hymn to the Young for Choir in 1971. He also wrote various songs for voice and piano.

One edition of Sonata breva from 1961 bears the OCLC number 61888293, another with the opus number 3 is OCLC 1061633025. His partita for piano from 1968 has the OCLC number 61888315. A collection of selected piano works published by Sowetski Kompositor in Moscow in 1973 bears the OCLC number 762209115. A collection of songs in Russian and Armenian published in Moscow in 1974 has the OCLC number 51474415. In 1975 he gave a collection of songs by various composers in Yerevan, based on poems by the Armenian author Avetik Issahakjan . It bears the OCLC number 61771309. The OCLC number 49242913 bears an anthology published by him in 1976 with romances by Armenian composers with Armenian and Russian texts. An edition published in 1987 with works for piano and symphonic works by Astwazatrjans has the OCLC number 64212677.
Recordings (selection)
In 1978 a recording of the first symphony with the movements Nel Modo Antico , Requiem and Con Allegrezza e Maesta was released on the Melodija label. Performers were the State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia under the direction of the conductor Dawit Chandschjan (1940-1981).
