Lex ferry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lex ferry is the name of a lock in the course of the Eider in the area of the municipality of Wrohm . It is crossed by the federal highway 203 via a bascule bridge . The bascule bridge designed by Friedrich Voss is the only Eider crossing between the bridge from Hamdorf to Breiholz and the bascule bridge in Pahlen . It lies on the border between the Rendsburg-Eckernförde and Dithmarschen districts .

The Lexfähre lock was put into operation in 1936 after two years of construction. It is a single-chamber lock that enables boat traffic between Rendsburg , the Gieselau Canal and Tönning . The lock serves to hold the Eider from Rendsburg to Lexfähre at the upper level with a mean water level of 4.80 m planned at the time. The Nordfeld lock downstream ensures a mean water level of 4.00 m.

The name Lex ferry was derived from the original Eider ferry between Wrohm and Prinzenmoor . The place consisted of five farms around 1850 .
