About this picture

Drage ( Low German : Draag ) is a municipality on the Eider in the district of North Friesland in Schleswig-Holstein . As in most villages in Stapelholm, there is also a farmer's bell in Drage , which was used as a call or warning signal.

geography

Geographical location

Drage is located in the Eider-Treene-Niederung , a sub-area of the large landscape area Schleswig-Holsteinische Geest , about five kilometers east of Friedrichstadt . In the southern area, the municipality is surrounded on three sides by the course of the Lower Eider . It is the youngest village in the Stapelholm region . The river bend in the southern outer area surrounds the Deljer Koog .

history

Drage has belonged to the North Friesland district since April 26, 1970. It is administered today by the North Sea-Treene Office.

In 1937 the Nordfeld lock was built, which has been open to cyclists and pedestrians since May 2001 and thus connects North Frisia with Dithmarschen .

On January 1, 1974, an area with then about 75 inhabitants was separated from Friedrichstadt.

politics

Community representation

The local elections on May 6, 2018, with a turnout of 60.4 percent, initially led to the following result: The Südschleswigsche Voters' Association received 35.5 percent of the votes cast and thus three seats, while the KWVD community of voters received 48.8 percent and thus five seats . In addition, two individual applicants each ran for a direct mandate, of which the former mayor received one, but dropped it again at the last meeting of the old municipal council. For this reason, the current municipal council consists of only eight people.

mayor

From 2008 to 2018, Hans Hermann Paulsen was mayor. After his resignation in May 2018, Maren Fürst was unanimously elected.

coat of arms

Blazon : "Above a blue corrugated shield base, inside under a silver wavy thread two crossed thorn branches, a golden tip, inside a green pollarded willow, above in the green head of the shield two golden marsh marigolds each on the right and left."

Economy and Infrastructure

General

The municipality is predominantly agricultural. There are also various craft and service businesses in the village, some holiday apartments, a general store and a nursing home. Thanks to its visual appeal with over 40 thatched-roof houses in and outside the village and, typical for Stapelholm villages, a farmer's bell, the municipal area provides a good base as a tourist destination for a relaxing holiday . On the banks of the Eider in Delje Koog there is a bathing area with a sunbathing area, with an almost real sandy beach and a bathing jetty with a slide.

traffic

The town is connected by motorized private transport via federal highway 202 . This runs east of Friedrichstadt first through the municipality in the northern Feldmark in the direction of the neighboring village of Seeth. To get to the village , just before entering the neighboring community, the North Frisian district road 8 branches off from the B 202 in a southerly direction. This leads directly into the center of Drage.

The nearest train station is in Friedrichstadt . All local trains stop here on the Marschbahn .

However, the direct local connection in the local public transport is carried out by regular service via the overland bus line 1063 of the Schleswig-Holstein local transport network from Husum, mainly by regular taxi . In addition to local trains on the Marschbahn, individual trains from the Deutsche Bahn intercity network also stop at Husum station .

Weir system and lock Nordfeld

Nordfeld lock building

The system in the Eider , built between 1934 and 1936, is both a tidal barrier that prevents the tides from penetrating further upstream, and a weir that guarantees a sufficient water level for navigation through its retention in the shielded inland water of the Eider.

The facility has been crossed by pedestrians and cyclists since 2001 and thus connects the districts of North Friesland and Dithmarschen .

Weir system

The 43 meter wide weir system has five flow openings. The brick building above contains the control of the flow gates. In each opening there is a dead bolt gate to the tide side and a roller gate under the center of the building.

lock

The chamber of the Nordfeld lock is 75 meters long and 9.50 m wide. However, only 65 meters in length and nine meters in width are released for shipping. Longer or wider ships must report to the Tönning Waterways and Shipping Office beforehand and obtain a permit. The lock originally had one flood gate, two storm surge gates and two ebb gates. A storm surge gate has been out of service since the Eider Barrage was built .

meaning

The weir forms the border between the Binneneider and Tideeider. It was built as part of the first line of the dike, because further downstream there were no barriers in the river before today's Eider Barrage was built. The lock was supposed to protect the cities upstream from the tides and storm surges coming over the Eider. However, the construction also meant that in the following period the water dammed up even higher downstream and the lower reaches of the Eider near the barrage continued to silt up. Today the Eider Barrage at the mouth of the river offers protection against storm surges . However, the water balance in the Eider has still not stabilized.
