Li Sigrid Andersson (born May 13, 1987 in Turku ) is a Finnish politician and leader of the Left Alliance party. She is also a member of the Finnish Parliament and a city councilor in Finland's sixth largest city, Turku. She was also formerly the chairman of her party's youth organization. She has been Minister of Education since June 2019, first in the Rinne cabinet , then in the Marin cabinet .

Li Sigrid Andersson belongs to the Finnish-Swedish part of the population.

Political career

In the 2015 general election, Andersson was elected with the highest number of votes in the Varsinais-Suomi region (with 17 seats). In the 2017 local elections, in turn, she got the highest votes for a candidate outside the capital Helsinki .

In February 2016, she announced that she wanted to run for the chairmanship of her party. In the election on June 6, 2016, she received 3,913 (61.85%) votes and thus won the internal election. On June 11, 2016, she was confirmed in her new office at a party congress of the Left Alliance in Oulu .

Political positions

Andersson sees herself as a Marxist , and she also advocates visa-free travel between Russia and Finland. She also believes that animals have an identity and therefore advocates a vegan lifestyle. She supports the legalization of cannabis use.
