Liana Alexandra (born May 27, 1947 in Bucharest ; † January 10, 2011 there ) was a Romanian composer and music teacher.

Life

Alexandra studied from 1965 to 1971 at the Bucharest Conservatory Ciprian Porumbescu with Tudor Ciortea theory of forms, with Emilia Comișel ethnomusicology and with Tiberiu Olah composition. She received an Enescu Merit Scholarship and attended the Darmstadt Summer Courses in 1974, 1978, 1980 and 1984 .

From 1972 she taught instrument studies, from 1980 also composition, orchestration and music analysis at the Bucharest University of Music. With her husband Șerban Nichifor she formed the Duo Intermedia and she directed the Nuova Musica Consonante-Living Music Foundation Festival . For her compositions she has received five prizes from the Romanian Association of Composers and Musicologists. In 1979 she won first prize at the Carl Maria von Weber Competition in Dresden, and in 1979 and 1980 she participated in the composition competition of the Gaudeamus Foundation , in which no prize was awarded at that time.
