The Liberal Democratic Party ( LDP , white soot. Лібэральна-дэмакратычная партыя; Russ. Либерально-демократическая партия) is a Belarusian -right party, which the government of Alexander Lukashenko near stands. It is classified as anti-Semitic and xenophobic .

history

The Liberal Democratic Party was founded in 1994 as the successor to the Liberal Democratic Party of the Soviet Union , from which the Russian party of the same name emerged. In the 2004 parliamentary elections, the LDP won a seat in parliament. In the 2006 presidential election , the candidate of the party Syarhej Hajdukewitsch received only 3.5% of the vote. In the parliamentary elections in 2008 and 2012 , the LDP did not win a single parliamentary mandate, but was able to win a seat in 2016 .

ideology

Despite its name, the party is considered extremist and has no democratic structures whatsoever. She advocates a unification of the states of Belarus and Russia up to and including a complete revival of the Soviet Union . She also refuses to join NATO . The LDP has a xenophobic profile and is therefore directed against immigrants such as Chechens .
