The Liberal National Party (translated "Liberal National Party") is a liberal - conservative party in Queensland , Australia .
history
The LNP was created in mid- 2008 through the merger of the regional branches of the National Party and the Liberal Party in the Australian state of Queensland. In terms of organizational law, it forms a branch of the Liberal Party.
Lawrence Springborg was founding chairman of the LNP . Since 2016 the party has been led by Tim Nicholls .
elections
The LNP ran for the first time in 2009 to elect the state parliament of Queensland. Despite a significant increase in mandates to 34 (2006: 25), the Liberal National Party had to admit defeat to the Australian Labor Party (2009: 51; 2006: 59). A consequence of the election result was the resignation of the LNP founding chairman Springborg.
