Liberale da Verona (* 1441 or 1451 in Verona ; † 1526 or 1529 or August 12, 1536 there) was an Italian painter and collector of miniatures.

Life

His father Iacopo della Biava (Biada) came from Monza and had lived in Verona since 1433. His mother was Iacopa Solimani. Liberale learned in Verona, was influenced by Andrea Mantegna in Padua and worked mostly in Siena from 1467 to 1474 , where he illustrated the books in the cathedral library. Liberale returned to Verona around 1488 and established a successful workshop. His late style is characterized by rhythmic lines and lively colors and is in contrast to Mantegna's classical music.
