Libor Sionko (born February 1, 1977 in Ostrava ) is a former Czech football player .

Club career

In the 1999/2000 season he came from Baník Ostrava to Sparta Prague , where he became champion and national team player and was able to gain experience in the Champions League . After a dispute with the club management, he switched to the Grazer AK on loan for the 2004 spring season . With the Graz athletes, he played a key role in winning the 2004 double. In the summer of 2004 Sionko became a player for FK Austria Wien , where he helped with strong performances that the team could advance to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup .

After a low in the autumn 2005/2006 season, Sionko started again in the spring and played a key role in the 23rd championship title of FK Austria Wien. Since Austria did not take the option to extend the contract, Libor Sionko signed a three-year contract with the Glasgow Rangers on May 16, 2006 . At the end of July 2007, Sionko moved to FC Copenhagen . In January 2010, Sionko returned to the Czech Republic and joined Sparta Prague. With Sparta he won the Czech championship in 2010. In the summer of 2012 he left the club when his contract expired. After he couldn't find a new club, he ended his career on August 27, 2012.

National team

Despite good performance, he was initially not considered for the Czech World Cup team in 2006, but was then nominated for the injured Vladimír Šmicer . In the group game against Ghana Sionko was substituted on for Jaroslav Plašil in the 68th minute of the game.

Sionko was also nominated for the 2008 European Championship . In the 1: 3 defeat against Portugal in the group stage, the midfielder achieved the interim equalization.
