Librado Andrade Ornelas (born September 2, 1978 in Jesús del Monte , Guanajuato ) is a former Mexican professional boxer in the super middleweight division .

Career

Librado Andrade began boxing as a teenager in La Habra, California, and was trained by Dave Martinez. After only a short amateur career, he made his professional debut on August 14, 1999 at the age of 20. In November 2013, he defeated former WBO challenger Leonard Townsend and won the NABA North American Championship in March 2004 by beating undefeated Willie Stewart. In June 2004 he also won the NABO North American Championship against Tito Mendoza. In April 2006 he won against former WBO world champion Otis Grant .

After 24 wins, 18 of them prematurely, he was ranked No. 1 in its world challenger list by the WBC and boxed for the WBA and WBC world championships on March 24, 2007 in Copenhagen . However, he was unanimously defeated by the undefeated Danish title holder Mikkel Kessler on points.

Due to premature victories against the two-time IBF challenger Yusaf Mack and the later two-time WBO world champion Robert Stieglitz , the IBF placed him in first place in the world challenger list. On October 24, 2008, he met the unbeaten IBF title holder Lucian Bute in Montreal and was behind on points until the last round before he knocked Bute down a few seconds before the end of the fight. However, Bute was not counted in accordance with the rules and received almost 20 seconds of regeneration time, whereby he got back on his feet and was declared the winner by the simultaneous end of the fight.

By a subsequent win against the Ukrainian Vitali Tsypko, Andrade received on November 28, 2009 in Québec a rematch against Lucian Bute, but this time lost by knockout in the fourth round. In May 2010 Andrade defeated the Canadian Éric Lucas .

Andrade only got back into the ring in May 2011 and surprisingly lost against Aaron Pryor Junior by majority decision on points. After three more fights with two wins and one loss, he ended his career in June 2013.
