history

Colonist house at Lückstrasse 18/19

The area in which the settlement was later built was a parcel called Kietzer Lacken . This designation was already proven on a document from 1571. The Lichtenberger Kietz itself was founded in 1783 by Commissioner Claar, the first hereditary tenant of the Lichtenberg estate, with the support of the regional authorities, in order to secure a tribe of day laborers . In 1801 45 people lived in the colony, this number increased through the expansion from four to six houses to 62 inhabitants in 1840 and 72 inhabitants in 1852. Through the acquisition of land and the construction of numerous farm buildings, the colony comprised around 33 hectares in 1889  Country. In the same year the settlement was included in the newly founded rural community Boxhagen-Rummelsburg .

This rural community fell to the city of Lichtenberg in 1912, which in turn was incorporated into Berlin in 1920. Today's Weitlingkiez has been built in the surrounding area with tenement houses since around 1900 . In this development, the Lichtenberger Kietz was largely absorbed. Some of the colonist houses from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved in the course of Lückstrasse and are under monument protection.
