action

James finds the little Boston Terrier Winston on the street, lures him with food and takes him in. A deep friendship develops between the man and the dog, which is also fed by the common eating habits. Soon Winston will no longer eat dog food, but rather fried eggs, pizza and popcorn. This changes when his owner gets to know a new friend. Suddenly the dog is thrown from the table to the floor and is even served vegetables. Winston refuses. He is happy when James returns to his old eating habits, but realizes that his owner is sad. Winston runs away and reunites James with his girlfriend. The two get married. A while later the dog finds meatballs and pasta on the floor. The couple have a child who becomes Winston's best friend due to clumsy eating habits.

production

Director Patrick Osborne was working on the full- length animation film Baymax - Huge Robowabohu as an animator when he came up with the idea for love goes through the stomach . Back in 2012 he tested the possibility of depicting a relationship based on meals with the 1secondeveryday app , which compiles a six-minute film from one-second recordings. Osborne recorded meals with the app and realized from the result that his idea could work in a film. The short film was created as part of a new short film program at Disney, which gives studio employees the opportunity to submit and realize their own short film ideas. The idea was presented to John Lasseter , who advocated a realization of the film in October 2013. It was the first film to be made under the new program.

Love goes through the stomach was Osborne's first directorial and screenplay work. The film was computer animated with Meander, which had previously been used in Im Flug conquered and which Osborne had helped develop. Winston's fur was animated with the XGen software. The film took a year to produce. The film itself spans a period of 12 years and is told from the dog's point of view. There is no dialogue in the film.

Love goes through the stomach was premiered on June 10, 2014 at the Festival d'Animation Annecy and was enthusiastically received by the audience. From November 2014 he was seen as a supporting film for Baymax - Huge Robowabohu in US cinemas.

The film won the 2014 Hamptons International Film Festival Audience Award in the Best Short Film category. It won an Oscar in 2015 in the Best Animated Short Film category and won an Annie Award in the same year , also in the Best Animated Short Film category.
