action

Piet is a former fine restaurant owner who was sentenced to a suspended sentence of 23 months for tax fraud and lost his job. His supervisor at the employment agency forces him to take a 1 euro job at the Hamburger Tafel. When he delivers food for the table, he meets his childhood sweetheart Veronika again. This is now a successful auctioneer. Piet shows off his former life. Veronika quickly finds out about him and gets him to invite her to his old restaurant. He tries to keep the vertigo going.

Then they want to go on a trip to Venice that they planned 20 years ago. First they travel by truck and then with a group of Polish pilgrims. Most recently, they travel to South Tyrol with a Dutch couple and their grandchildren.

There the two get closer, but then Piet sets off to get a million Swiss francs from a safe deposit box, which Veronika disappoints. She leaves him and conducts an auction. Then Piet shows up and the two set off together.
