Liebig is an impact crater on the western edge of the front of the moon , west of Mare Humorum , south of Mersenius crater and north of Palmieri . The crater rim is somewhat irregularly shaped and eroded. A lunar groove of the Rimae de Gasparis runs tangent to the north-western edge of the crater .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German chemist Justus von Liebig .
