Liisa Oviir

Liisa Oviir (born March 1, 1977 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian lawyer and politician. From September 14, 2015 to November 23, 2016, she was Minister for Entrepreneurship in the coalition government of Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas . She belongs to the Estonian Social Democratic Party (SDE).

Life

Liisa Oviir was born to the politician couple Siiri and Mihkel Oviir .

In 1997/98 she worked as a consultant at the Estonian Embassy in London . In 2000, she graduated from Tartu University with a law degree .

From 1998 to 2008 she was employed as a lawyer at the Estonian shipping and trading company Tallink . From 2008 to 2015 she worked for the energy company Eesti Energia .

politics

In 2015, Liisa Oviir ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) . After Urve Palo resigned as Minister for Foreign Trade and Entrepreneurship in August 2015, the Social Democratic party leader Jevgeni Ossinovski surprisingly brought her to the Estonian government as her successor. After the collapse of the previous coalition and the formation of the new government under Jüri Ratas , she was no longer considered as minister, but was able to move into parliament as a successor to her party, where she was elected deputy group leader. When Urve Palo left the government and returned to parliament, Oviir also lost her parliamentary mandate in August 2018.

Private

Liisa Oviir is divorced. She has two sons.
