Miquela Sousa , also known as Lil Miquela machuca , is a digitally generated personality with his own Instagram profile. The avatar, which has existed since 2016, has (as of July 2020) 2.4 million Instagram subscribers. Lil Miquela has also been publishing music since 2017.

history

Miquela's first Instagram message appeared in April 2016. The allegedly 19-year-old half-Brazilian posts photos and stories from her life on the platform. With growing popularity, the fictional character developed into a virtual influencer who presented fashion, appeared in fashion magazines, gave interviews, appeared with celebrities and finally became successful as a singer.

In 2018, Miquela got the company of two other avatars on Instagram, Blawko (a man) and Bermuda (a woman). Bermuda reportedly hacked Miquela's Instagram account to expose her true identity. Miquela then admitted to being a robot.

Lil Miquela was created by the technology startup Brud from Los Angeles . The company earns the fees that its virtual influencers generate.

In 2017 Miquela's debut single Not Mine was released . This was followed by You Should be Alone , Over You , Hate Me , a collaboration with Baauer , and Right Back . Her style of music moves between house and pop , borrowing from Robyn , Dua Lipa and Peggy Gou . Lil Miquela has 100,000 listeners a month on Spotify , and Hate Me alone has already been viewed over 4 million times. Miquela names Rihanna , Erykah Badu , Aaliyah , Solange and HER as role models
