Peggy Gou (born July 3, 1990 in Incheon , South Korea ) is a South Korean DJ , music producer and fashion designer . In 2018 she had her musical breakthrough with the hit It Makes You Forget (Itgehane) . Peggy Gou sings in Korean . She has lived in Berlin since 2013 .

biography

Peggy Gou is the daughter of a professor of media studies and a businesswoman . When she was 14, her parents sent her to London to learn English properly . A year later, her parents brought her back to South Korea, where she graduated from school and attended university. Before that, she had been interested in music, especially hip-hop from the 1990s and electronic dance music .

Peggy Gou moved back to London and studied fashion at the London College of Fashion . During her studies, she began to dj at parties and clubs. She also worked for fashion magazines and a Korean magazine.

During trips to Berlin she discovered techno for herself. In 2014 she moved to Berlin to work as a DJ . She initially earns money in a record shop. Roman Flügel became her great role model.

It first played in 2016 in Berghain. She released four EPs that year . In 2017, she made it into fourth place among the newcomers of the year in a reader survey by Groove magazine . Since then she has been touring clubs all over the world. In 2018 she had her musical breakthrough with the hit It Makes You Forget (Itgehane) . This title is also included in the soundtrack of the computer game FIFA 19 . The Evening Standard called her "the most popular DJ on earth".

In 2018, Peggy Gou met the fashion designer and DJ Virgil Abloh in Stockholm , who booked her for a party for his fashion label. Then Claudio Antonioli and Davide De Giglio , founders of the New Guards Group (NGG), got in touch with her and suggested that she start a fashion label with them. She accepted on the condition that fashion work should not interfere with her musical plans. The first collection from Peggy Gous Label Kirin is planned for autumn 2019.

In the music video for Gous Starry Night from 2019, directed by Jonas Lindstroem , you can see the South Korean actor Yoo Ah-in , who became known worldwide with his leading role in the film Burning .
