Lili Darvas (born April 10, 1902 in Budapest , Austria-Hungary , † July 21, 1974 in New York City ) was a Hungarian actress .

Life

She married the playwright Franz Ferenc Molnár in 1925 , was a member of Max Reinhardt's theater group and, after learning German, belonged to the theater in der Josefstadt from 1925 until Austria was annexed in 1938 , when she had to flee. She was the first “Olympia” as well as the daughter “Vivie” in George Bernard Shaw's wife Warren's trade or the Genia Hofreiter in Schnitzler'sDas weite Land ”. Her husband accompanied her on her tours to Berlin, Vienna and Salzburg. In 1926 she played in Molnars Játék kastélyban ("The game is the thing") and Riviera . The former was played on all major European stages and was performed on Broadway that same year . In New York theater directors and publishers stormed the couple with offers and invitations. They were even received at the White House by President Calvin Coolidge , and Molnár's 50th birthday was celebrated with great fuss.

She received US citizenship in 1944. Because of the later long separation phases and the travel activity of Lili Darvas, the couple separated amicably, but remained married and friends until Molnár's death (1952).

She was Grandma Bayles in The Twilight Zone episode "Long Distance Call" (Season 2 - Episode 22) in 1961. In 1970, Károly Makk and her produced the Hungarian film Liebe (Szerelem) , which received a jury award in Cannes.
