Lilia Pawlowa Ignatowa ( Bulgarian Лилия Павлова Игнатова ; born May 17, 1965 in Sofia ) is a former Bulgarian rhythmic gymnast , multiple world and European winner and two-time World Cup winner.

Athletic career

Lilia Ignatova was born in Sofia on May 17, 1965 and was part of the “golden girls” generation that dominated the sport in the early 1980s. At the European Championships in 1980 she recorded her first international success with two silver and two gold medals. A year later at the 1981 World Cup , she won gold and silver with other devices.

She continued her sporting success in the following years.

Ignatova was considered one of the most elegant and charming gymnasts of all time. At her last competition in Tokyo she was voted the most beautiful participant by the spectators.

End of active sporting career

Lilia Ignatowa ended her sporting career in 1986 with three gold medals at the 1986 European Championships . In 1988 she took on the role of Agnessa in the Bulgarian film AkaTaMuS . In 1999 she was elected to the executive committee of the Bulgarian Gymnastics Federation. In 2000 she founded her own association LILI SPORT . Lilia Ignatowa also trained the Austrian gymnasts.
