Lilian Ellis

Lilian Ellis (born May 25, 1907 in Frankfurt am Main as Ellis Stampe Bendix ; † February 21, 1951 in Copenhagen , Denmark ) was a Danish dancer and actress in German film of the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Life

Lilian Ellis received a dance training and was discovered for the cinema at the age of 21. Here she stood in front of the camera both in Berlin and in Vienna. Initially she was given leading roles, Ellis had to be content with supporting supporting roles in romances and musical comedies in the sound film . In the last season of the Weimar Republic (1932/33) she was brought in as a ballet master and dancer at Berlin's Cabaret of Comedians . After the seizure of power , Ellis left Germany. She went to Hollywood in May 1934 at the invitation of producer Hal Roach , who had seen her on a visit to Vienna in the revue "We send love" at the Moulin Rouge . Later she performed as a dancer in New York and in 1937 in the Paris Alcazar , where she was able to celebrate a particular success with the dance of the Scheherazade. The war years spent Lilian Ellis in Denmark, where she also appeared during the occupation after a few years of film abstinence front of the camera.
