history

Electric locomotive 1042.504 from the earlier production of Liliput Vienna

Liliput was founded in 1947 by Walter Bücherl in Vienna . In the beginning, sheet metal railways were manufactured, from 1950 onwards the company began producing plastic models. Another production facility was located in Baden near Vienna from 1977 . The company developed into a permanent fixture on the model railway market, the high level of detail of its models was considered pioneering. Above all, models based on German and Austrian models were produced.

However, the technical execution of Liliput models has repeatedly been the subject of criticism, especially the quality of the locomotive drives repeatedly contradicted the successful visual quality of the models. The company ran into economic difficulties at the end of the 1980s, initially with the car model manufacturer Herpa as a new partner.

However, Herpa's activities were only a brief interlude, because in 1992 the British model railway manufacturer Bachmann Europe Plc took over. Liliput and relocated production to Kader Industrial Company Ltd. to Hong Kong . Since then, Liliput products have been developed and sold by the German branch in Altdorf near Nuremberg .

Because of the various changes in ownership of the company, a distinction is now made in the chronological classification of Liliput models between Liliput Wien , Herpa-Liliput and Liliput-Bachmann .

Today's product range

Liliput now offers locomotives as well as passenger and freight cars for the nominal size H0 . Mainly based on German , Swiss and Austrian models, this is still largely produced with the molds from Vienna. Many of the products currently on offer are therefore also further developments of older models from the Viennese Liliput period.

One of Liliput's specialties has always been more unusual series, such as B. the DB series 05 , 45 or the BBÖ 214 .

Liliput manufactures primarily for the international two-wire direct current track system with a gauge of 16.5 mm. Liliput Vienna offered a larger range of vehicles for the single conductor alternating current track system. These activities initially met with little interest at Liliput-Bachmann and were only resumed around 2004/2005.

The regular range of Liliput also includes narrow-gauge railways based on Austrian models in the H0e gauge with a gauge of 9 mm. Above all, the models of the U series , whose design originally comes from Egger-Bahn , in their numerous variants are known.

At the toy fair in 2010 in Nuremberg, the entry into the N gauge was announced. Four variants of the regional railcar FLIRT initially appeared .
