Lilium maculatum var. Bukosanense is a variety of Lilium maculatum from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ) in the Dauricum section . It wasfirst describedin 1942 by Masaji Honda as Lilium bukozanense and, in 1963, placed by Hiroshi Hara as a variety of Lilium maculatum .

description

Lilium maculatum var. Bukosanense is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 60 centimeters. The onion is firm and round, the stem slender and drooping and curves upwards towards its tip. The narrow, lanceolate leaves are shiny.

The plants already produce two to three bowl-shaped flowers in their second year , the flowering time is June. The flowers are orange-red and heavily speckled, the bracts are very narrow. The seed germinates instantly and hypogeaically .

Distribution and location

Lilium maculatum var. Bukosanense grows exclusively in Japan , where they Miyamasukashi-yuri ( Jap. 深山透し百合 , dt about. Transparent lily of deep mountains ) is called, on Mount Buko in altitudes between 600 and 1000  TP to almost vertical rock walls.

Status and exposure

Mainly due to human impact, but also due to Japanese macaques ( Macaca fuscata ) and Sika deer ( Cervus nippon ), which they use as forage, the population has declined sharply. Lilium maculatum var. Bukosanense is therefore classified as "Critically Endangered" on the Red List of Threatened Plants in Japan, as well as in the Red Data Book of Saitama Prefecture .

Since 2003, as part of a project by the Taiheiyo Cement Group, plants have been grown and planted on Mount Buko, and since 2005 the foundations for the protection of the variety have been worked on.
