List of grape varieties |
Lilla is a white, undemanding and fungus-resistant table grape from Hungary . Due to their early ripeness and good frost resistance, they can also be grown in somewhat harsher climates.
Descent, origin
Is the result of a cross of Villard Blanc x (Pannonia Kinsce x Mathiasz Janos Diadala). The new breed comes from Jozsef Csizmazia from the Research Institute for Viticulture and Cellar Management in Eger .
Lilla is less known as a grape variety than as a given name. This name was invented by the Hungarian poet Mihály Csokonai Vitéz - that's what he called his great love (actually she was called Juliana) in his cycle of poems, composed 1793–1802, published in 1805. The name is rare today, but the poems are subject matter in every elementary school Hungary. Lilla's name day is February 16 of the Hungarian calendar. It must be added that "Lilla" is already used as a name in Lessing's "Nathan the Wise" in a replica (Act IV, 3rd scene); "Nathan the Wise" was published in 1779.
properties
The grape variety has a strong growth and ripens in late August to early September. The grapes are large, with oval yellow berries, crisp, neutral, harmonious in taste with firm flesh. Lilla has medium tolerance to genuine and downy mildew , and good frost resistance, tends at Overripe but to gray mold ( Botrytis cinerea ).
The white table grape Lilla is well suited for commercial and amateur cultivation. It is very robust against diseases, so it needs almost no pesticides and has a harmonious taste.
