Marion Lilian "Lily" Addison (born December 21, 1885 in Adelaide , † November 27, 1982 ) was an Australian tennis player .

Life

Addison won the South Australia championships several times from 1906 . In mixed she often competed with her brother JJ Addison, also a successful tennis player. She moved to Melbourne around 1910 . In late 1913, she began training as a nurse at the Royal Melbourne Hospital . Her brother JJ was killed in northern France in May 1915. After completing her training, she signed up for the medical service of the Australian Army in August 1917 and then served in several British hospitals in Thessaloniki, Greece . After the end of the war she was treated in a hospital in Dartford near London for a lung disease in February 1919 .

In June 1919 she took part in the Wimbledon Championships . While she was eliminated in the second round against Winifred McNair in singles , she reached the semi-finals in the mixed competition alongside Max Décugis . She returned to Australia a month after the tournament. In 1921 she won the Victoria Championships for the fifth time.

In 1937 she worked at the Royal Adelaide Hospital . In 1970 she lived in the Melbourne district of Kew .
